About Me
My name is Ian Candler, otherwise known as Hillage or Magicaxeman.
Don’t ask me how the Hillage name came about, as I have no valid answer.
It was just one of those things that happened during that period of my life when I seemed to be either continuously drunk or stoned.
The Magicaxeman name came about as someone on the site I had joined was already using Madaxeman. Since then most of my online friends tend to refer to me by that handle.
Let’s start at the beginning.
I am the eldest son of Peter and Pearl Candler
I had 3 brothers, Clive, Marc and Andy.
Clive is working and living in the Heybridge area, He still plays synths and is also into astronomy.
Marc sadly died in January 2002.
Andy lives on the Dengie peninsular.
Marc left a daughter Vikki (17)
Andy has 2 girls Jenny and Lucy (17 and 15)
School
I went to Lawford Mead primary and junior school from 1963 – 1970.
I then went to Rainsford comprehensive school (now St Peters)
From 1970 – 1975.
It’s funny but I loathed school at the time, yet now look back on those days with a measure of fondness.
Some of the teachers such as; Tom Middleton, Bob Morgan, Roger Gaffeny, Doug Jennings and of course Dickie Richards, weren’t as bad as I thought they where at the time.
In fact I have met and still do see occasionally a few of them around Chelmsford and have to say that they have always treated me with respect and a measure of fondness. Given what a nightmare I was at school, it speaks volumes about their character.
After school
After I left school I freely admit I found it hard to settle down doing everything from labouring and warehouse work to shop management.
Eventually I settled down and did my city & guilds in motor mechanics, from then on working as a mechanic and M.O.T tester.
I finally ended up running my own small firm building and repairing guitars.
Recent
Quite a few years ago now I had a bad mountain biking accident (don’t argue with tree’s, it hurts!!) Which has left me disabled and unable to work.
I did try college for a while to get some qualifications that I never bothered with at school but sadly my brother Marc died not long after I started studying and I never managed to get back to it again.
Most of my time now is limited to online pursuits. I am an active member of Vampire freaks.com and have been for a couple of years now.
I mainly frequent the various user groups (cults) I’m a member of and also can be found on the main boards, help and advice sections of the site
